Education Requirements
This information is intended to provide answers to commonly asked questions by Certified Financial Planners. It is not intended to replace detailed information found in statutes and regulations. Hours Required: 30 CFP® certificants must complete 30 hours of CE each reporting period. This period is the same as the certification period, a two-year period ending with the last day of the certificant's renewal month. A newly-certified CFP® certificants' initial CE requirement is prorated for the period from initial certification to the end of the initial certification period. Credit must be earned from programs that cover the financial planning topics the Subject Topics Accepted for CE Credit. Two of the 30 hours must be earned from a pre-approved CFP Board Code of Ethics and/or Practice Standards program. The other 28 hours may be earned in one or more of the accepted topics.

self-study online or written courses (passing grade of 70% required
on final exam)
Hours in excess of the 30 hours required for the reporting period may not be carried over to subsequent reporting periods.
Credit will not be given for courses taken more than once in each biennial reporting period. Credit Reporting CAPE will report credits to the CFP Board within 30 days of course completion.
