Connecticut State Requirements

Continuing Education:
Connecticut requires that real estate salespeople and brokers earn 12 credits every two years to renew a license (1 credit = 1 hour of class). The deadline for Broker renewal is March 31, 2008. The deadline for Salesperson renewal is May 31, 2008.

Required Curriculum :
Complete 12 hours of Continuing Education courses from an approved school. The courses shall consist of the following: Six hours (6) of Mandatory coursework as determined by the Connecticut Real Estate Commission. The 2008 Mandatory courses are Current Issues in Real Estate I (3 hours) and Current Issues in Real Estate II (3 hours). SIX hours (6) of real estate elective courses approved by the Connecticut Real Estate Commission and from an approved school. All Cape School courses are approved by the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection/Real Estate Commission.

You DO NOT SUBMIT CE Certificates with your 2008 renewal form or mail to the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection unless requested.

Effective April 1, 2008
- The Department of Consumer Protection requires that educational providers electronically submit licensees' course completions for state-approved courses. Your license # is required in order to report your successful completion. Please provide your license # when creating your account, or log in to your account and click on the "my account" link to add your number. If you do not know your Real Estate license #, click here to look it up.

Please retain original certificates for 3 years in the event you are selected for audit by the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection.

CAPE Renewal Options:

Mandatory topics (6 credits required):

(M) Classes: Current Issues in Real Estate I (M1) (3 credits) and Current Issues in Real Estate II (M2) (3 credits) fulfills the required 6 credits described above.

Elective topics (6 credits required):

Licensees may choose A, B, or C to fulfill the remaining 6 elective credit requirement.

(A) Class: Ethics & Fair Housing - (6 credits)

(B) Class: Listing and Selling Property - (6 credits)

(C) Class: Mortgage and Real Estate Tax Advantages - (6 credits)

By selecting M Classes and choosing one of the classroom courses A, B, or C you will fulfill the license renewal requirement. This may be done by registering for both AM and PM courses on the same day. Or, a student may mix and match locations and dates to satisfy the 12 credit requirements. Partial credit is available by taking a 6 hour course.

NEW: Cape online elective courses available. Take one 6-credit course in place of A, B, or C to fulfill the 6 credit elective requirement.

All Cape courses meet the minimum requirements as set forth by the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection/Real Estate Commission.
