FLORIDA Continuing Education (CE) Requirements
This information is intended to provide answers to commonly
asked questions by insurance agents. It is not intended to replace
detailed
information found in your state’s statutes and regulations.

Hours Required
• For LH, PC & Title agents – 24 hours biennially
in basic or higher level courses
•
Adjusters are required to complete 24 hours biennially
•
Individuals licensed for 6 years or more must complete 20 hours
of intermediate or advanced level courses, biennially
•
Customer representatives, limited customer representatives, solicitors,
title agents or industrial fire and burglary agents who are not
dually licensed as LH agents must complete 14 hours biennially
•
Agents licensed for 25 years or more, who are also CLUs or CPCUs
must complete 10 hours biennially
•
Workers compensation adjusters are required to complete 24 hours
biennially
Compliance Date
End of agents’ birth month following the second anniversary of the first license issuance date, and biennially thereafter.
Approved Course Delivery Methods
• Independent self-study online or written courses (passing
grade of 70% required on final exam)
• Classroom
• Interactive Online
• Seminar
Exam Requirements
Online Interactive self-study courses have no monitor requirement.
A Florida Insurance School must monitor independent self-study
online or written courses.
Course Subject Requirements
• Course must
be approved for the line of insurance for which the agent is
licensed.
• LH agents who also have an industrial fire and burglary license
must have 24 hours in LH and 4 hours in industrial fire.
• LH/PC combined licensees must complete 50% of hours in each
• LH/PC agents must also include 2 hours Unauthorized Entities and
3 hours of Ethics
• Adjusters hours must include 2 hours Ethics, 10 hours Law and 12
hours optional
• Workers compensation adjusters must complete 2 hours in ethics,
4 hours of state rules and regulations, 10 hours workers compensation
and 8 hours in any other workers compensation subject.
Carryover Credits
Up to 24 excess hours may be carried over to the next reporting
period.
Course Repetition
Courses may not be taken for credit more than once in a three-year
period.
Monitor
Requirements
• A monitored
examination is not required for an independent study program
of instruction that is presented through interactive,
on-line technology approved by the department
• Self-Study Written or download courses must have a department approved
monitor.
Approved monitors:
• Librarians
• Accredited
elementary or secondary educational programs or accredited institutions
of higher learning (principals, college
instructors,
counselors)
• U.S.
Military Training Facilities – education officers or
chaplains
• Insurer
home office training departments – home office training
managers only
• National
insurance trade, agent or adjuster associations or societies
Exemptions
• Individuals
with a limited lines license that does not have an examination
requirement.
• Individuals with any of the following licenses: dental representative,
motor vehicle physical damage and mechanical breakdown agent and
crop hail and multiple peril crop agents.
Credit Reporting
Cape reports
credits to the Florida Insurance Department within 14 days of
course completion. A course completion certificate is provided
for the agent’s records.
