KENTUCKY Continuing Education (CE) Requirements

This information is intended to provide answers to commonly asked questions by insurance agents. It is not intended to replace detailed information found in your state’s statutes and regulations. Hours Required

• 24 hours biennially

Compliance Date

The biennium begins on the first day of the month following your birth month and ends on the last day of your birth month two years later.

Approved Course Delivery Methods

• Independent self-study online or written courses – only 12 hours of credit may be completed in this manner. (passing grade of 70% required on final exam)
• Classroom – agents must complete at least 12 hours of classroom courses
• Interactive Online – only 12 hours of credit can be completed in this manner
• Seminar (only 75% of the requirement may be earned from company and/or agency sponsored courses)

Exam Requirements

Self-study final exams do not require a monitor.

Course Subject Requirements

• At least 6 hours must be directly related to any line of authority for which the agent is actively licensed
• At least 3 hours must be specifically approved as Ethics.
• At least 12 hours must be classroom credit

Carryover Credits

A maximum of 12 hours of classroom or correspondence credit may be carried over to the next reporting period.

Course Repetition

Courses may not be taken more than once within the same reporting period

Exemptions

• Adjusters
• Non-resident agents who received their license through reciprocity and who have met the continuing education requirements of their home state.
• Limited lines licenses: Limited line credit, travel, crop, surety
• Agents who receive their licence less than one full year before the end of their current continuing education biennium. (But, these agents are not exempt from the next biennium or thereafter)
• Agents who have a waiver from continuing education requirements because they are keeping their license for the sole purpose of receiving renewals or deferred commissions and have filed a supporting Affidavit for Exemption From Continuing Education with the Office of Insurance.

Credit Reporting

We will report credits to the state no more than thirty days from course completion.
