MICHIGAN Continuing Education (CE) Requirements
This information is intended to provide answers to commonly
asked questions by insurance agents. It is not intended to replace
detailed
information found in your state’s statutes and regulations.

Compliance Date
The biennial compliance
date is determined by the last digit of the license number (Social
Security number) and the first letter
of the agent’s last name. Agents whose last names begin with
A-L renew in odd-numbered years. Agents whose last names begin
with M-Z renew in even-numbered years.

• License No. Last Digit 2 = 2/1 biennially
• License No. Last Digit 3 = 3/1 biennially
• License No. Last Digit 4 = 6/1 biennially
• License No. Last Digit 5 = 7/1 biennially
• License No. Last Digit 6 = 8/1 biennially
• License No. Last Digit 7 = 9/1 biennially
• License No. Last Digit 8 = 10/1 biennially
• License No. Last Digit 9 = 11/1 biennially
• License No. Last Digit 0 = 12/1 biennially
It is recommended that CE be completed at least 45 days prior
to the renewal date.
Approved Course Delivery Methods
• Online
self-study courses (passing grade of 70% required on final exam)
• Classroom
• Interactive Online (only 50% of credits may be taken this way)
• Seminar (only 50% of credits may be taken this way)
Exam Requirements
Self-study final exams must be monitored by a disinterested 3rd
party (i.e. someone who has no business or family connection with
the student.)
Course Subject Requirements
• Michigan
requires that all licensees complete 3 credit hours in Ethics
•
The remaining 21 credits do not have to be specific to the license
line held by the agent.
Carryover Credits
Excess CE credit hours may not be carried over to the next reporting
period.
Course Repetition
Courses may not be taken more than once in each reporting period.
Exemptions
• Individuals
licensed 23 months or less at the time of the first CE compliance
date are exempt for the first reporting
period.
• Individuals licensed only for one or more of the following lines:
Limited Life, Turkey, Crop and Hail, Travel, Accident and/or Baggage,
Surety and/or Title.
• Individuals who apply for and receive a hardship waiver for terminal
illness of self or of an immediate family member who requires an
ordinate amount of care by the licensee or active military duty.
Credit Reporting
Effective
October 2, 2006 Cape will report credits to Thomson Prometric
within 30 days of course completion. Credits
will continue to be reported to Promissor until Friday September
22, 2006. A certificate of completion is provided for the agent’s
records.
