NEW MEXICO Continuing Education (CE) Requirements

This information is intended to provide answers to commonly asked questions by insurance agents. It is not intended to replace detailed information found in your state’s statutes and regulations. Hours Required

• 15 hours annually
• 7 hours annually for title guaranty licensees

Compliance Date

9/30, annually

Approved Course Delivery Methods

• Written and Online self-study courses (passing grade of 70% required on final exam)
• Interactive Online
• Classroom
• Seminar

Self-study courses are only allowed for individuals living in areas where classes are not offered or where class attendance would impose a hardship.

Exam Requirements

Self-study final exams do not have any monitor requirements.

Course Subject Requirements

• Producers must take courses within the line of license authority that they have.
• 1 hour of ethics must be included.

Carryover Credits

Excess credit hours may not be carried over to the next reporting period.

Course Repetition

Credit will not be given for a course that is repeated within a three-year period.

Exemptions

• Individuals who have been continuously licensed for 25 years or more. (They must file a notarized statement outlining their 25 years of experieance.)
• Newly licensed individuals are exempt for the reporting period in which the license is issued.
• Nonresident agents if the have completed the CE requirements of their home state.
• Fraternal Agents

Credit Reporting

Cape will issue a Certificate of Completion within 10 days of course completion. Agents shall file a verified statement with the Superintendent indicating that they have completed the required credits of approved courses and include the required fee.
