DAKOTA Continuing Education (CE) Requirements

Hours Required
• 10
hours biennially
• 20 hours biennially for a combined LH/PC license
• 4 hours biennially for crop hail agents
Compliance Date
04/30 of even numbered years
Approved Course Delivery Methods
• Independent
self-study online or written courses (passing grade of 70% required
on final exam)
• Classroom
• Seminar
• Interactive Online
Exam Requirements
Self-study final exams do not have a monitor requirement.
Course Subject Requirements
• Courses
must be approved for lines of insurance held
• LH/PC combined licensees must complete 8 hours devoted to one line.
Carryover Credits
Credits may not be carried over into the next reporting period.
Course Repetition
Credit will not be given for a course that is repeated within
a reporting period.
Exemptions
• Individuals
who have a limited license to sell only credit life, credit health
insurance, travel accident and baggage insurance,
or bail bonds
• New licensees receiving a license after 9/30 of an even numbered
year but before 10/1 of an odd numbered year must complete at least
one half of the CE requirement.
• A resident attorney who is licensed to practice in South Dakota
• Individuals who are employed by a trade association and hold a
limited license to sell only surety bonds to the association members
• Newly licensed individuals who have only been licensed for less
than 6 months at the 1st compliance date
• Individuals who are retired, at least 65 years old, have been licensed
in South Dakota for at least 10 years
• Individuals holding limited lines licenses for which an exam is
not required
• Nonresidents
Credit Reporting
Cape will report your continuing education credits to Sircon within 30 days of course completion. Please keep your certificates of completion for your records.
