WEST VIRGINIA Continuing Education (CE) Requirements

This information is intended to provide answers to commonly asked questions by insurance agents. It is not intended to replace detailed information found in your state’s statutes and regulations. Hours Required

24 credit hours are required biennially

Compliance Date

6/30, even years (current compliance date 06/30/2008)

Approved Course Delivery Methods

• Classroom
• Interactive Online, Independent online and written self-study courses (must score at least 70% on the final exam in order to receive credit)
• Seminar

Course Subject Requirements

• At least three credit hours must be completed in Ethics.
• Property and Casualty producers who may sell flood insurance must complete a one-time 3-hour course in NFIP/Flood.

Exam Requirements

Self-study final exams are required to be monitored by a disinterested 3rd party (i.e., someone with no business or family relationship to the student).

Carryover Credits

Carryover of excess credits is not permitted.

Course Repetition

Credit will not be given for a course taken more within a three-year period.

Exemptions

• Individuals who are licensed only for credit life/credit accident and sickness or insurance offered in connection with banks and credit transactions
• Individuals licensed less than one year at the time of the first CE compliance date are exempt for the first reporting period
• Individuals holding limited lines licenses for which an exam is not required
• Individuals holding any limited or restricted license that the commissioner may declare exempt
• Adjusters
• Nonresidents

Credit Reporting

CAPE will report credits to Experior within 30 days of course completion. We provide a certificate of course completion for the agent’s records.
