WEST VIRGINIA Continuing Education (CE)
Requirements

Hours Required
24 credit hours are required biennially
Compliance Date
6/30, even years (current compliance date 06/30/2010)
Approved Course Delivery Methods
• Classroom
• Interactive Online, Independent online and written self-study courses (must score at
least 70% on the final exam in order to receive credit)
• Seminar
Course Subject Requirements
• At least three credit hours must be completed in Ethics.
• Property and Casualty producers who may sell flood insurance must complete a one-time 3-hour course in NFIP/Flood.
Exam Requirements
Self-study final exams are required to be monitored by a disinterested 3rd party (i.e., someone with no business or family relationship to the student).
Carryover Credits
Up to 6 credits may be carried forward from one biennium to the next. Producers becoming compliant due to the reduced 6-credit requirement are not eligible for carryover. Excess Ethics credits are treated as general credits when carried over.
Course Repetition
Credit will not be given for a course taken more than once within a biennium.
Exemptions
• Individuals
who are licensed only for credit life/credit accident and sickness
or insurance offered in connection with banks
and credit transactions
• Individuals licensed less than one year at the time of the first
CE compliance date are exempt for the first reporting period
• Individuals holding limited lines licenses for which an exam is
not required
• Individuals holding any limited or restricted license that the
commissioner may declare exempt
• Adjusters
• Nonresidents
Credit Reporting
CAPE will report
credits to Prometric within 30 days of course completion. We
provide a certificate of course completion
for the
agent’s records.
